Capt. Jake Rogers returns to the North Atlantic is a twisting 

war-time rescue that spans Nazi occupied Europe. RESCUE RUN 

is John Winn Miller’s follow-up book to The Hunt for the Peggy C and follows main character Capt. Jake Rogers’ escapades during World War II. 

Although you get enough of the story to follow along with it’s sequel I would advise that readers would get more enjoyment out of this series if you read it in order. 

Following the events of The Hunt for the Peggy C, Rogers finds himself back in the North Atlantic commanding a US Liberty ship. When disaster strikes and the crew is shipwrecked in Ireland he discovers those he cares about are in danger.

The father of the love of his life has been captured and is about to be deported to a concentration camp. Rogers sets out across war-torn Europe to rescue him, but will his scheming work? And who can he trust to make sure everyone makes it out safely. 

This historical action adventure kept me on my toes as twist after twist is revealed from its pages. I haven’t read the first book in the series but was able to pick up on Rogers' dynamic with his crew and the more familiar faces along the way. 

I liked the pacing of the story, it felt authentic in the way that there was a constant threat of discovery and capture, but the near misses and action moments were well built up – not too close together to feel overly dramatised nor too far apart that the risks become minimised. 

I also liked the change in narrative perspective, the moments we follow the story as (bounty hunter) Janssen really ramps up the feeling of the net closing in. Either from the author’s knowledge or research the book is filled with details and information that help to bring this story to life and make it feel believable. 

There’s even extra details on the figures, machines and equipment at the end of the book. In all I think that this is a well-rounded tale that would appeal to readers who enjoy World War II action tales. 

The war isn’t over yet and so I wonder whether we will see more from Capt. Rogers in the future.
